The Catholic Church in Ruwi is a witness to the faith and dedication of expatriate workers who flocked to Oman since the early 1900s.
His Excellency Bishop Bernard Gremoli OFMCap, the Apostolic Vicar of Arabia commissioned Fr. Bartholomew Kestell OFMCap, the first resident priest in Oman to begin construction of the first church which was later completed by Fr. Barnabas Maddii OFMCap. The Church was consecrated by His Excellency Simon Cardinal Lourdeswamy on 4th November 1977.
A rapid increase in the expatriates made it necessary for a bigger Church to be constructed some years later with the generous help of the faithful. This present Church of Saints Peter and Paul was solemnly blessed by His Excellency Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran on 10th March 1995.
